Cape boys’ volleyball defeats IR 3-0

Vikings improve record to 10-1
April 27, 2023

The Cape volleyball boys downed Indian River 25-23, 27-25, 25-21 in a battle of two 8-1 teams April 24.

Odin Potemski and Charlie Casas led the Vikings with 11 kills each, while Dylan Henry, Brady Lamb and Ryan Diller pounded six, five and four kills, respectively. Talan Stephens assisted on 29 points.

Indian River’s Calab Galbreath hit 14 kills and bumped 11 digs. Connor Bird garnered 19 assists. Grason Howard bumped 10 digs.

“I’m happy coming out with a sweep of IR,” said Cape coach Tyler Coupe. “I don’t think it was our most effective and efficient game, and the fact that we’re able to still win in three is a good sign. We got in some pretty rough deficits in sets one and two, and very easily could have folded and sent it home versus an aggressive team like IR. The fact the boys were able to find ways to score points quickly with their backs against the wall is a good sign. It shows they have some grit and some toughness that will serve them as we finish this last quarter of our regular season.”

The Vikings added another win to their record April 26, defeating Christiana 25-15, 25-14, 25-16. Lamb and Casas led the way with eight and seven kills, respectively. Stephens had 26 assists.

“I think one of our greatest strengths is our diversity and depth,” Coupe said. “We’re not stuck riding the success of a singular player. If one our guys has an off night, we have someone else who can quickly pick up the pace.”

Cape has three matches left in the regular season. The team will be back in action at home at 6:15 p.m., Wednesday, May 3, against Middletown, then host MOT Charter at 6:15 p.m., Thursday, May 4.
