Sewell wins Oy Vey 5K

Longtime runner Mike Sewell of Lewes, a masters runner who has done just about every race in the state, won the eighth annual Oy Vey 5K May 22 at the Seaside Jewish Community Center in Rehoboth Beach.

Sewell, 52, hit the finish in a time of 19:12, while Daniel Weile of Newark was second in 21:01 to win the masters championship. Mardiny Ung, 55, of Elizabethtown, Pa., won the female overall title in 23:29, while Debra Isser, 67, of Milton ran 25:28 to win the masters title. The race attracted 82 runners and 40 walkers with proceeds benefitting the educational programs at Seaside Jewish Community. This past fall, the students were able to attend an educational day at the Holocaust Memorial Museum in D.C. The race had plenty of famous kugel to nosh and treats to tempt every palate. If there is something the Jewish community knows how to do, it’s cook and feed the masses. Congratulations to all the finishers.
