A 3-0 Senior Night shutout over a 9-1 Newark Charter team moved the Cape field hockey team’s record to 12-1, with all wins coming by shutout.
The Patriots, with a few Division I-committed players, had to deal with Cape’s backline defense of Regan Best, Ally Diehl and Ellen Ramsey, which did not allow a single shot on goal.
Cape had a 14-0 advantage in shots and 12-1 in penalty corners. Cape’s three goals came in the first half by Alysa McCarthy (unassisted), Atia Sabbagh from Kailey McMahon, and Emily Wells from Avary Miller. Goalie Izzy Mekulski was credited with the win.
Newark Charter’s junior goalie Karly Estes had 11 saves.
Cape has games remaining at Caesar Rodney (8-4) and Dover (2-11).
Cape won the JV game 4-0 to go 9-1-1 on the season with one game remaining at Caesar Rodney.
Emmilyn Swope scored two goals, while Natalie Arseneau and Meredith Frederick each notched one. Hazel Mancari had an assist.
Cape outshot the Patriots 26-0. Goalie Alexis Puddicombe was credited with the win.
