Cheryl W. ‘Cheri’ Will, champion of victims

Cheryl W. “Cheri” Will, 55, of Lewes, formerly of Philadelphia, Pa., died Sunday, April 21, 2019, with her family by her side. Cheri was born June 10, 1963, in Hinsdale, Ill., daughter to H. Fred Wooters of Lewes and the late Priscilla R. Maxham.

Cheri graduated from the Methodist School of Nursing in 1985, and worked in several hospitals in Philadelphia before moving to Lewes. She was employed at Beebe Healthcare as an Emergency Room nurse from 1998 until her death.

In 1999, Cheri became the coordinator of the Beebe Healthcare Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Program. She later became the coordinator of the Beebe Domestic Violence Response team. She was the former chair of the governor-appointed Sex Offender Management Board, former chair of Sexual Assault Network DE, joint committee member of Child Abuse/Torture Committee, committee member of the Domestic Violence Coordinating Council, the Delaware Coalition Against Domestic Violence and member of the Victim’s Rights Task Force, serving on the Disabilities Subcommittee. She was Trauma-Certified, and a facilitator for Stewards of Children.

Cheri worked tirelessly on many projects statewide and community-wide to assist victims of crime. During her 20 years of service at Beebe, she presented several multidisciplinary educational forums, assisted in creating Wellness Centers with local churches and anti-abuse programs in the Cape Henlopen School District. She was a former board member of Abriendo Puertas, a domestic violence shelter for Hispanic women. Her accomplishments go on and on.

She is survived by her spouse, Nancy S. Will; daughters Courtney and Haley Will of Lewes; son Daniel Murdock of Rehoboth; father Fred and stepmother Judy of Lewes; brother Christopher Wooters of Germany; stepbrothers Ricci Thompson of Philadelphia Pa., Joe Thompson of Lancaster, Pa., and Mike Thompson of Philadelphia. She is also survived by several cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, and her Beebe Healthcare family. She was preceded in death by her mother, Priscilla Maxham. Cheri was known for her unconditional love to many, and loved by many more.

A Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, April 30, at 11 a.m., at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, where friends may call beginning at 10 a.m. Friends may also call the night prior, Monday, April 29, at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Tunnell Cancer Center, 18947 John J. Williams Hwy., Suite 101, Rehoboth Beach DE 19971, or to the Delaware State Police Victim Services, DSP Headquarters Victim Services, P.O. Box 430, Dover De. 19903.
