Claudius Lee Bowden Sr., shipping manager

January 30, 2020

Claudius Lee Bowden Sr., 74, of Georgetown, the son of the late Jethro Bowden and Angie Louise Bowden, was born March 26, 1945.  The Bowden family resided in Hyde County, Lake Landing Township in North Carolina. He departed this life Friday Jan. 24, 2020, in Lewes.

Claudius met and fell in love with Dorothy (Doris) Lewis from Georgetown. Doris and Claudius were married Oct. 4, 1970.

Claudius worked at Cargill/Allen Foods in Harbeson as the shipping manager. He worked until he decided to retire.

He is survived by two daughters, Teresa Ann Bowden of Selbyville and Victoria Bowden of Bridgeville; two sons, Rodney Tyrone Bowden of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Claudius Jr. Bowden of Georgetown. In addition, he is survived by eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and a host of family and friends

Claudius is preceded in death by his wife Doris Bowden; and brothers Macon, Marvin and Joe Gibbs.

Claudius was not an avid churchgoer, but he loved the Lord. He would often read and study the Bible, a habit influenced by his late wife Doris. As Claudius became more knowledgeable, he accepted the Lord as his savior. Claudius loved music and spending time with his grandchildren as well as his friends.

Claudius’s closest friends were Thurman Shelton, Willie and Louis Mann, Bernell Gibbs and Clossie Spencer, whom he considered more like a brother. They grew up together as kids and continued that friendship throughout their adult life.

A celebration of life service was held Saturday Feb. 1, at St. John 2nd Baptist Church, 26602 Mt Joy Road, Millsboro.
