Coral Cove opens in Rehoboth Beach
Lewes' cozy Coral Cove has opened a second, larger location in Rehoboth Beach this summer, expanding the inventory far beyond the ocean-inspired clothing and accessories that fill the tiny Lewes store.
The new cove is more like a bustling lagoon with increased foot traffic and clientele, new clothing, housewares, furniture and accessories in the new, much larger Rehoboth Avenue location.
Coral Cove sales associate Shelby Scott said the expansion has only meant good things for business: new clientele and old regulars are pleased with the extensive selection of furniture, art and lighting options in the larger location.
"In Lewes, it's kind of a quaint, quiet store," Scott said. "It's different feel here; everyone loves it because there's no other stores like this in Rehoboth.
Mary Walls-Grant, the shy owner of Coral Cove said she prefers for the stores' clothing and accessories to take center stage.
After signing a lease last spring, Walls-Grant said she set to work stocking the Rehoboth store, which is exponentially larger than her tiny unit on Second Street.
"There's a lot more space here, so I get to be creative," Walls-Grant said. "Furniture, props, jewelry and lighting fixtures made in Charleston, everything in the store is for sale, and it's all very unique, not mass-reproduced."
She said clientele often tell her the beach boutique has a SoHo feel, and the smart art, clothing, stationery, jewelry and accessories are inspired by worldly influences.
"We definitely have a little Mediterranean vibe," Walls-Grant said. "We are just looking to have something unique that's not offered in the area and a little harder to find."
This mission is already making the new Coral Cove a go-to spot for distinctive gift items for locals and summer residents of the Cape Region like Brad and Tillman Benna, Fredericksburg, Md., residents enjoying their summer home in Rehoboth.
"We are out for shopping for mom's birthday," Brad said as he compared gift options with his young son.
