Delaware Botanic Gardens open with free admission Jan. 20

January 13, 2020

Delaware Botanic Gardens, 30220 Piney Neck Road, Dagsboro, will be open to the public with free admission in celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday, Jan. 20.

Since this is a holiday, organizers said they hope to see families and school-age children visiting and enjoying the gardens. There is still much to appreciate this winter as the 2-acre Piet Oudolf Meadow of 70,000 plants transitions into its fifth season. This is a time when perennials begin to rest for the winter and the gardens’ architecture can be fully enjoyed.

The 12-acre Woodland Gardens stand tall with hundreds of hollies now prominently visible in the understory. The tidal Pepper Creek is running cold and brisk. Native grasses throughout the gardens dance to the rhythm of the wind in celebration of the winter season.
