Delmarva Christian volleyball falls to Padua in straight sets

Royals hope to get back to .500 during 3-match week to start October
September 30, 2023

Delmarva Christian volleyball ended the month with a 3-0 home loss to Padua Academy Sept. 30. With a three-match week to start October, the 2-5 Royals are hoping to get back to .500.

The match against Padua began with a 25-15 loss in the first set. The Pandas carried the momentum into the second set, winning 25-9, and closed out the match with a 25-6 victory in the third set to seal the 3-0 win.

Padua showed precision sending balls over to the Royals side, finding space more often than not, while Delmarva Christian’s attempts seemed to be just out of bounds. The Royals kept up their hustle and got contributions across the board, including seniors Addy Benjamin, Alexandra Munro and Tobi Robinson. Freshman Katherine Jones picked up valuable minutes, and like juniors Madison Jones and Layni Dukes, kept attacking the net until Padua scored its final point.

Delmarva Christian has suffered back-to-back losses since dropping a heartbreaker against Indian River Sept. 21. Fall may be a bit too literal for the junior-led squad at the moment, but upcoming matches against Lake Forest, Tower Hill and Sussex Central offer chances to turn the season around. With a scary schedule to close out the month, Delmarva Christian is hoping to be the squad spooking others when Halloween comes around.

Lake Forest will visit the Royals Monday, Oct. 2, before Tower Hill comes to town Thursday, Oct. 5. Delmarva Christian will head over to face crosstown rival Sussex Central Friday, Oct. 6.
