Dental practice revamps office in Milton

New location offers comfortable, local care
August 2, 2012

For more than 30 years, Mercer and Sydell Dental has been offering comfortable care in its Dover location; now Cape Region residents can benefit from those years of experience.

Mercer and Sydell recently opened a new office in Milton. The office, formerly a medical practice, was revamped, repainted, landscaped and improved from top to bottom, said Adam Sydell, DMD.

“We were looking for a place in Sussex County to expand, and the Milton region was the right fit,” said Sydell. “Residents here need more dental options, and it was an easy commute from our Dover office.”

Sydell said the practice offers a wide variety of family dentistry options such as Invisalign and oral surgery.

“We hope to build a relationship with our new and existing patients here,” said Sydell.

The new office is modern and comfortable, with deep blue walls and updated touches, including a mirrored mosaic reception desk. The building, which has been vacant for years, was nearly gutted and rebuilt, Sydell said.

“We wanted a welcoming, clean atmosphere for our patients,” Sydell said.

Mercer and Sydell employs three dentists – Sean Mercer, DDS, Andrew Mercer, DMD, and Sydell – who will all have rotations in the Milton office.

Sydell said patients can call for an appointment or just walk into the office. The location opened June 12. An open house will be held at 5 p.m., Friday, Aug. 24 to give residents a chance to meet all the dentists and learn more about the practice.

“Our biggest goal is to make sure the patient is comfortable,” said Sydell. “We want to show that modern dentistry can be comfortable. We try to talk each patient through the procedure.”

That level of care is extended to small children as well. Sydell said children should have their first dental appointment by the age of 2. While the appointment is not as thorough as it is for adults, it helps get the child accustomed to the dentist and the dental chair.

“We can work with pediatric dentists, but a lot of the dental work can be done here,” Sydell said. “We schedule a lot of time for each patient. We don’t want to hustle the patient through because dentistry isn’t one size fits all.”

In cases of dental emergencies, Mercer and Sydell Dental can often fit in patients on the same day.

“We do our best to work with the patient,” Sydell said.

Besides working with residents in the office, Sydell said the dentists also plan to make visits to schools in the fall to educate children about the importance of dental hygiene.

“We want to be a part of the community,” Sydell said.

The Milton office at 524 Union St. is now accepting patients. To make an appointment, call 302-684-1100.
