Dogfish Head and KAM Productions team up for 302 Day
It wasn’t quite 3/02, matching the Delaware area code, but on March 5, Dogfish Head and Kam Productions put on their first 302 Day at Dogfish Head’s Milton brewery.
The event drew a huge crowd and featured musical performances, a raffle, Delaware-themed merchandise, and a contest for who could have the most iconic Delaware costume.
Karlin Maull, owner of KAM Productions, said, “We wanted to create a day where we could celebrate all things Delaware. We ended up partnering with Dogfish and we had it on a Saturday because even though it's not 3/02, we needed a whole day to do it.”
KAM Productions is responsible for the seemingly ubiquitous horseshoe crab logo with the 302 on the shell. The company, which sells merchandise at locations in Lewes, Milford and Fenwick Island as well as online, had hats, shirts, koozies and pint glasses co-branded with Dogfish Head up for sale.
Of the turnout, Maull said, “It’s unreal. We couldn’t have asked for a better day, the weather has been perfect, and just the people coming out and supporting has been great.”
Keith and Karlin Maull started KAM Productions five years ago with their merchandise representing Delaware. Karlin is a native Delawarean, having grown up in Milford and attended Cape Henlopen High School. She and Keith met in college in West Virginia, and they later relocated back to the First State.
She is eager to do another 302 Day next year, saying, “Hopefully this will continue again for the next couple of years.”
Dogfish Head founder Sam Calagione said, “We are always looking for new and exciting ways to support local organizations, collaborate with other local businesses, and celebrate the local community that has so long supported us and helped to propel us to where we are today. Working with Keith and Karlin to help grow this awesome event has allowed us to do all three of those things in one go.”
A portion of Dogfish Head’s sales from 302 Day will benefit Delaware State Parks. The brewery also unveiled a new beer, Honest Hustle, a hazy IPA that Calagione said will be mass released this summer under a different name.
Like many of those in attendance, Calagione had his dog, Max, with him. He was very happy with the event turnout, kicking off a year in which Dogfish is planning to bring back signature festivals like the Weekend of Compelling Ales and Spirits, and Analog A-Go-Go, which have been canceled the last two years during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“It just felt like a momentum-building moment for hopefully coming out of COVID, and spring is in the air. A perfect storm of awesomeness today. Everyone won,” he said. “We’re all in on the next 302 Day.”
