Food Bank sets drive-thru mobile pantry March 27
In response to high food costs caused by inflation and the end of pandemic-era emergency SNAP benefits, the Food Bank of Delaware will hold mass drive-thru food distributions in each county during the last week of March.
The Sussex County distribution will start at 10 a.m., Monday, March 27, at Crossroad Community Church, 20684 State Forest Road, Georgetown. The Food Bank asks that participants make sure their trunks or back seats are cleared out so volunteers can load food.
To help speed up the check-in process, preregistration is requested. On-site registration will also be available. Service will be first-come, first-served. Assistance is limited to one per household. The Food Bank of Delaware is prepared to serve up to 1,000 households at each pantry. Recipients must bring proof that they live in Delaware. A state-issued ID, utility bill or Delaware SNAP benefits card can all be used to show proof of residency.
To register, go to eventbrite.com.
Thanks to funding and a partnership with the Delaware Department of Health and Social Services, the Food Bank of Delaware will continue mass food distributions through June 2023. Additional dates will be announced.
