Food Lion raises over $71,000 to help Easter Seals

August 15, 2011

Forty-three local Food Lion stores raised $71,990 in the 20th annual Shop&Care campaign to support Easter Seals Delaware and Maryland’s Eastern Shore in their mission to provide services so that people with disabilities can live more independently within their communities.

The Food Lion stores in Salisbury and Berlin, Md., raised over $2,000 each; 21 stores collected more than $1,000 each and 23 stores increased the amount raised from last year.

At the checkout counter, customers were asked to donate $1 to help Easter Seals in the Shop&Care campaign. Shoppers could also help by purchasing General Mills cereal, Breyers ice cream or Food Lion 24-pack bottled water.

“The results in this year’s Food Lion campaign are just tremendous - not only because of the stores raising top dollars, but also because of the overall number of stores that increased their fundraising for Easter Seals this year,” said Bill Adami, president and CEO of Easter Seals Delaware and Maryland’s Eastern Shore. “On behalf of Easter Seals, I’d like to thank the stores, their employees and all the shoppers who gave their time and support in this campaign. It means a lot to Easter Seals and the people we serve in the region.”

Donations specifically go to supporting Easter Seals’ Early Intervention and children’s therapy programs, which help children with disabilities, and Camp Fairlee Manor, which offers weeklong summer camp sessions, weekend respites from October to May and travel trip experiences specifically catered to children and adults with disabilities.
