Fulton a good choice for Cape

July 6, 2012

Cape Henlopen School District’s Board of Education recently hired one of its own, Bob Fulton, to serve as superintendent. With 18 years as an employee of the district, in every position from special education teacher to assistant superintendent and human resources director, Fulton brings a wealth of educational experience and local knowledge.

The educational experience provides Fulton a solid foundation on which to build his superintendency along with a deep understanding of this multimillion-dollar institution and its thousands of students and hundreds of employees. Equally important is the local knowledge of the Cape culture that Fulton has developed through his years of immersion. The Cape district knows Fulton personally and professionally, and he has earned the district’s stamp of approval.

Likewise, Fulton knows the board, the staff and the students of Cape Henlopen School District, and with that complete knowledge has accepted the top position. He knows what he’s getting into, and much more than any job-search process or a few weeks of vetting could ever offer, the district knows what it is getting in Bob Fulton. His selection as superintendent also means that others in the system will have the opportunity to move up, which helps build loyalty and dedication in the ranks.  We applaud the district’s choice of Bob Fulton for the top position and join the many others in wishing him great success in the years ahead.

On two additional positive notes, it’s worth pointing out the hugely successful girls’ lacrosse tournament held at the Cape high school complex last weekend.  Sixty-two teams from as far away as Florida competed in more than 150 games played on six different fields. The complex buzzed with the activity of the tournament, and many people complimented the facilities and the professional and hospitable attitudes of all involved. Not only is the Cape High complex evolving daily as a regional community center, tournaments like this also make the facility a serious part of the resort economy.

Finally, congratulations to Camilla Conlon for her 15 years of dedicated service to Cape Henlopen School District.  It’s hard to imagine a steadier and more loyal school board member than Conlon.  She has dedicated much of her life’s energy to the district and can be justifiably proud of all the district has accomplished during her years of service.
