Gallery One welcomes Damon Pla and Peggy Warfield

Gallery One invites the public to a reception from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 7, to meet Damon Pla and Peggy Warfield and view their art.

Gallery One will have a special exhibit of works by Pla and Warfied during September.

The gallery is now in its seventh year and continues to offer an exciting destination to experience first-rate arts and crafts, as noted by the Washingtonian Magazine in June.

The gallery is owned and run by the artists who have committed themselves to provide the public with good art and service while offering each member a stimulating and supportive environment for growth. The artists of Gallery One are excited that Pla and Warfield have joined Gallery One. Each adds a unique presence to the gallery.

Warfield’s work is made up of a rich layering of images and papers with overpainting and alterations. Her work explores materials and possibilities in poetic presentations. Her themes reflect what is around her - the marsh, the coastal landscape by the sea and the sand, summer gardens, winter branches and home. A retired high school English teacher, Warfield's titles and themes reflect on her past.

In his own words, Pla says: “In my paintings, I explore landscapes and surreal compositions to provoke thought and meditation. My artwork consistently exposes my obsession for late-afternoon light and the subtlety of both cool and warm ambient spaces.

"Addicted to these nuances, I exaggerate the mood of each painting to isolate the essence of a moment in time. I believe the nature of these observations can immediately create an intimate connection so that the viewer is left only to absorb the energy and take it with them.” A muralist, Pla comfortably paints large acrylics.

The gallery is open10 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week staffed by one of the artists and is at 32 Atlantic Ave. (Route 26) in Ocean View.
