James Vernon Hake Sr., enjoyed his retirement

James Vernon “Jim” Hake Sr., 79, of Milton passed away peacefully at home Monday, Dec. 27, 2021.

Jim was born in Baltimore, Md., son of the late Vernon and Mary (Pearson) Hake. He and his wife Diane were transplants to Delaware from Baltimore, and they enjoyed spending their retirement together. Jim especially loved gardening and his daily reading of the obituary page in the Cape Gazette and Baltimore Sun newspapers.

Jim is survived by his wife of 38 years, Diane (Sturm) Hake; four children, James V. Hake Jr. (Silvia Forni), Jeffrey D. Hake (Tyne), Bryan J. Hake (Kathleen Kammer-Hake), and Laura J. Hake and fiancé Sean Ranneberger; four grandchildren, Noah, Gaia, Tess and Brady Hake; two sisters, Barbara LaFrance (Vincent) and Jean Wolfe; as well as a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.

A private Celebration of Jim’s Life will be scheduled at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes contributions to the Children’s Beach House at cbhinc.org.
