Jeffery Eric Carter, veteran, devoted father
Jeffery Eric Carter, 60, of Harbeson, passed away peacefully at home Sunday, June 8, 2025, after over a decade's battle with kidney disease, leaving a void his family cannot fill. Up until the end, Jeff maintained his loving personality, witty sense of humor, compassion for others, love of family and friends, and expressed gratitude for his life. He was born Aug. 21, 1964, in Lewes.
Jeffery attended and graduated from the Cape Henlopen School District, then joined the U.S. Army Reserve. He held various positions and continued to serve the local community.
Jeff’s friendships encompassed all aspects of life, especially the local stray animals he had taken care of; each friendship was special to him. From phone call chats to family gatherings, sharing meals and entertaining, reunions, adventures near and far, and helping in times of sadness and difficulty, Jeff was up for it all. He was the friend who would drive you to your chemo appointment just as freely as he would join you for lunch. He was known to drop in to visit at your front door just because. Jeff knew that friendships, like many things that matter, take work to maintain, and he was willing to put in the effort.
Jeffery was a devoted father to Martina Carter-Scibelli, Mason Carter and Noah Carter, who were his pride and joy.
Jeffery was preceded in death by his mother, Ella Dunning-Carter; his father, Rufus Carter Jr.; his sister, Mary Ellen Carter-Brown; and his brother, Dale Carter.
He is survived by his three children, Martina Carter-Scibelli (husband Thomas), Mason Carter and Noah Carter; sister, Brenda Bolden-Dukes (husband Ivan) of Pennsylvania; brother Rufus “Yummy” Carter of Lewes; brother, Hiram Carter (Henrietta) of Lewes; and sister, Melvina Carter-Gibbs (husband Kenneth) of Harbeson, who will never forget the love he brought to their lives.
A viewing will be held from 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday, June 21, at Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown, with a service from noon to 1 p.m.
Thank you with our deepest gratitude during this difficult time. - The family of Jeffery E. Carter.
