June 8, 2020

Cape Henlopen High School Class of 2020 students, family and friends started graduation week June 8 with the Journey of the Class of 2020 drive-thru experience at Hudson Fields, off Route 1 north of Lewes. Photograph signs of each class member lined the route as teachers from throughout the district cheered for the graduates as they drove by.

On June 10 and 11, district staff will deliver personalized signs and diplomas to seniors’ homes. Students can go outside and pose for a photograph with their diploma and their family.

The virtual graduation ceremony took place June 9, and featured a traditional graduation program, including valedictorian and class president speeches and the announcement of graduates by their class advisors.

Milton native and Cape High Class of 2004 graduate Jimmie Allen, whose single “Best Shot” reached No. 1 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart November 2018, addressed students.

Cape High principal Nikki Miller said plans are in the works to provide students with an opportunity to walk across the stage and celebrate their achievements together when appropriate COVID-19 state-of-emergency restrictions have been lifted.
