Kenneth Hopkins, loved his family
Kenneth Hopkins, 71, of Ocean View, passed away peacefully Thursday, Oct. 16, 2025, in University of Pennsylvania Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Kenny was born January 14, 1954, in Wilmington, and son of the late Kenneth and Joyce Hopkins.
Kenny was a dry wall hanger by trade and later was a public property manager for the City of Wilmington until his retirement.
Kenny was an avid fisherman. He and his son David spent hours preparing to fish and enjoyed so many trips out on the ocean. Kenny was an animal lover. He loved his dog, Gracie, and three cats who followed him around the house! He faithfully fed the birds, foxes, and deer, and enjoyed watching them. His happiest moments were simply spent with his family and watching his grandchildren grow. He was so proud of all of them, and they meant the world to him! Kenny truly loved living at the beach.
Kenny was preceded in death by his daughter, Melanie Hopkins. He is survived by his best friend and loving wife of 38 years, Donna Hopkins; son, David Hopkins; and daughter, Jennifer Hopkins. He is also survived by his grandson, Nicholas (who called Kenny Dad); and granddaughters, Tori Hopkins, Hailee Minner, Summer Hopkins, Adelyn Hopkins, Chloe Dickens, Hadley Hopkins and Oaklee Hopkins. Spending time with them and watching them grow up always made Kenny smile. Whether he was enjoying his ice cream and fudge with Hailee or sneaking the younger one’s money to spend on the boardwalk or outlets, Kenny was happy!
Kenny was a warrior as he fought his illness. He fought so hard to come home; anyone else would have given up. His tenacity was something to be admired, a testament to his character and love for his family.
The family would like to thank the staff at University of Pennsylvania Hospital. Not only were they tremendous doctors and nurses medically but more compassionate and empathetic people could not be found.
Burial will be private.
