Lee brothers take over RELYance Skim Camp

New owners enjoy successful first summer focusing on fun
August 5, 2021

From campers to counselors to now owners, Jack and Swain Lee are wrapping up their first summer running RELYance Skim Camp, taking over for another set of brothers, Tom and Dave Bracht.

“It’s been great!” Jack said. “We started out as campers their very first year, and then worked as counselors. Dave and Tom have been like older brothers to us.”

The Bracht brothers launched RELYance in 2014 and are now focused on growing their custom board business, Brother Surfcrafts, said Jack, a Cape grad now set to enter his second year at the University of Maryland. Swain is a rising senior at Cape High.

The week-long camps ran at Delaware Seashore State Park June 21 through Aug. 5 and filled up the first week, Swain said, with about 20 campers attending each session.

“Kids are just happy to be on the beach,” Swain said. “At the end of the day, it’s most important they go home happy.”

Counselors also allow time for beach games and swimming for campers, who may register beginning at age 6. About one-third to one-half of campers have never skimmed before, Jack said.

“Skimming is cool, but what’s most important is that everyone has fun,” Jack said.

Campers meet in the parking lot at Tower Road to check in and receive weight- and size-appropriate boards, if they don’t already have them. After a short warmup, they receive individual and group instruction.

“Swain and I are really excited about our first summer going so well, and we are grateful the community has supported us so strongly,” Jack said.
