Letter: Kudos to Lopez on offshore drilling bill

October 19, 2018

I recently received an email update from state Sen. Ernie Lopez, and could not have been more pleased to read the news regarding his efforts to ban offshore drilling from Delaware’s coastal waters thus protecting our precious beaches. His legislation, Senate Bill 200, was passed with overwhelming bipartisan support and signed last week in Rehoboth Beach by Gov. John Carney, who spoke glowingly of Sen. Lopez.

As a volunteer and member of Fort Miles Historical Association and Friends of Cape Henlopen State Park, and someone who cares about the rich historical and natural beauty of our region, I feel fortunate to have a public servant in Sen. Lopez who also shares that same appreciation and uses the resources of his office to protect and enhance our community for the greater good for generations to come.

In these divisive political times when unity is needed most, I applaud Sen. Lopez for his consistent and steadfast efforts toward building bipartisanship and delivering on the oath of office he took to respect the right of future generations to enjoy the rich historic and natural heritage of Delaware.
