Letter: Milton Holiday House Tour a great success

January 31, 2019

Before we get too far away from 2018, the Women’s Club of Milton would like to thank the Town of Milton, our residents and all the out-of-town visitors for supporting and attending the 2018 Holiday House Tour, our most successful yet.

The WCOM cannot thank the gracious homeowners enough for opening their beautiful homes to our tour-goers. We would not have been able to host the tour without you. We thank Julia Smith, Will McQueen and David Stiber, Cindy and John Chirtea, Liz Miceli and Iris Cekovich, Cathy and Dave Coleman, Brooke and Ed Olivere, Denise and David Nordheimer, and Libby Zando and Bob Blayney. Your homes were beautifully decorated and helped showcase the beauty and serenity of the holiday season.

An enormous thank you also goes to the Milton Historical Society, the Milton Arts Guild, and Mayor Ted Kanakos and the Town Hall for opening their doors to the public to enjoy the history, art and beauty of the Town of Milton.

A huge thank you goes out to the merchants who took the time from their busy work day to sell our tour books/tickets. Thanks to the Milton Historical Society, The Mercantile, Salon Milton, The Suburban Farmhouse and Lewes Gourmet. We are most grateful.
Also, thank you to the generous businesses and friends who advertised in our tour book. You made a great contribution to our financial success.

Another great big thank you goes to all the docents who gave of their time, and who made our visitors feel so welcomed. Docents were from the Women’s Club of Milton, the Milton Garden Club and local residents.

And last but certainly not least, a giant thank you goes to the WCOM Holiday House Tour Committee who worked tirelessly on this project for the past six months. Each committee member performed her individual tasks with the utmost talent and skill but more importantly, the committee worked together as one super cohesive team!

In particular, a huge thank you goes to Elaine Carbone who covered several tasks, from ordering posters and signage, to recruiting, organizing, and instructing, with the help of BJ Weisenbach, our docents who hosted tour-goers at each home. In addition, Elaine also very ably managed the day of the event, as the go-to person for any issues or emergencies that might have arisen.

Also, thank you to Ellen Passman, Mary Ellen King and Nancy Richardson for meeting with homeowners and making arrangements for the tour. Thanks also to Ellen and Carol Capobianco for gathering tour book advertisements and to Ellen for writing tour book copy. Thank you Judy Redard and Barbara German, with help from Joanne Jordan, Nancy Trask and Mary Kay Williams, for their work on publicity - it worked - based on selling out of tour books, even when we printed an extra 100 books! Thank you to Ellen Passman and Denise Nordheimer for being the face of the tour on WBOC TV’s Delmarva Life program.

Also, thank you to Maureen and Joe Blasic and Alex Donnan for making/posting the beautiful signs to help publicize the tour. A special thank you goes to Paula Costanzo, with help from Nancy Richardson, for taking on tour book sales, distributing the books to the merchants and collecting the money.

The WCOM was extremely gratified to hear the warm and gracious comments that were given so freely by tour-goers. They told us how friendly, kind, welcoming, pleasant and hospitable we were. It only served to swell our pride in our town. And they loved the treats that were offered by all the homeowners as well.

The Holiday House Tour is the WCOM’s biggest fundraiser of the year. From the proceeds of this event and several others such as bingo and the Holly Festival Bake Sale and 50/50, we give back to the Town of Milton. We provide annual college scholarships to two young Milton women in the amount of $2,000 each, funding for various town events and donations to other local nonprofit organizations.

Again, thank you to all for making this year’s tour such a grand success! Best wishes to everyone for a very Happy New Year!
