Lewes artist Laura Webb Unruh receives four awards in statewide senior art exhibit
Lewes artist Laura Webb Unruh received four awards at the Annual Statewide Senior Art Exhibit 2016 sponsored by Delaware Technical Community College Encore Program May 16. In the experienced artists division, she was awarded first place and best in show for her watercolor painting “Serenity.” She was awarded fIrst place for her oil painting “Autumn Splendor.” She was awarded second place for her oil painting “Approaching Storm.”
Unruh is a descendent of famous artist Paul Peel. She has loved art since childhood, and creative expression has been an important part of her life ever since. In college she minored in art. She studied under and was inspired by professor Walter Yost, head of the Art Department at Peru University in Nebraska. She also studied art at Drake University and Shippensburg University. Her watercolor and oil paintings have been on exhibit in galleries and shows in Washington, D.C., Virginia, Maryland and Delaware. This fall she will be participating in her 11th Plein-Air Paint Out event in Chincoteague, Va., and her second juried fine art show in Princess Anne, Md.
