Lewes in Bloom awards Beauty Spot for August

September 17, 2017

Lewes in Bloom announced that its August 2017 Beauty Spot Award was given to Robert Kovalcik and Bob Howard of Ocean View Boulevard, Lewes. The overall design of this garden is relaxed elegance. A beautiful pool is the center of the design with a mix of perennials, annuals, and beautiful trees and shrubs with constant color throughout the year. All areas of the property are planted from the front following a path to the backyard, with old-fashioned roses lining the walkway. Large pots of artistically arranged flowers flank the front door and pool area.

The Beauty Spot Award launched last year and is open for nominations now. Designed to honor beauty throughout the greater Lewes community, the award also serves to thank gardeners for their efforts to enhance beauty on their properties. A Beauty Spot winner can be based on overall landscape, planted beds, containers, front door, patios, or even a beautiful corner. It doesn't have to be an entire yard or property. It can be any size spot in the ZIP code 19958.

Honorees receive the Beauty Spot Award sign to display in their yard for a month, an award certificate from Lewes in Bloom, a $25 gift certificate from Wharton's Garden Center, acknowledgement in the Lewes in Bloom newsletter, website and Facebook, as well as coverage in the Cape Gazette.

All residential properties or spots in the greater Lewes 19958 ZIP code are eligible to participate. Lewes in Bloom membership is not necessary. Residents can self-nominate their property, and the general public can also nominate a residential property that catches their eye. Lewes In Bloom board of advisors members and Beauty Spot selection committee members are not eligible. Candidate residences can be either professionally or owner-designed and -planted, but must be owner-maintained. To submit a nomination, go to www.lewesinbloom.org/hot-off-press.

The Beauty Spot Award Committee is led by members Betsy Hansot, Linda McDonald, Ann-Marie Rooney, Lois Sechehay and Dolores Wardell.
