Lewes Historical Society speaker series to feature Holland Oct. 12

October 10, 2018

The Lewes Historical Society Speaker Series lecture “The Lost Locket of Lewes,” featuring Dr. Ilona Holland, will take place at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 12, at the Margaret H. Rollins Community Center, 101 Adams Ave., Lewes. It is free and open to the public. No reservations are required.

Holland will talk about her new children’s book, “The Lost Locket of Lewes.” Much of the book takes place in Lewes in 1893. Holland will highlight the role of illustrations in conveying factual period information. She will share what inspired her and how she merged her research with fiction to reach adults as well as elementary school students. The story is a captivating adventure to uncover a mystery about a locket found on Lewes Beach. The book is illustrated with delightful images and concludes with a section of fun facts about Lewes.

The Lewes Historical Society Speaker Series features a new topic each month between September and May, with educational and entertaining programs that explore the history of Lewes and the surrounding area, and these places’ unique interactions in the national scene. Meetings are open to all members, residents and visitors of the Lewes community. For more information and a complete schedule, call 302-645-7670 or go to www.HistoricLewes.org.
