Lewes Vintage Base Ball Club back in action

July 5, 2020

The Lewes Vintage Base Ball Club was back in action June 27, with a doubleheader at Dove Valley Winery in Rising Sun, Md.

The squad split the doubleheader, falling in the first game to Rising Sun 10-8 before coming back for a 14-11 win over the Mohican Club of Kennett Square, Pa.

Although the game of yesteryear resembles the game of today, there are several obvious rule changes. The first difference fans notice is that players do not wear gloves. Also, pitchers throw underhand, batters are called strikers, strikes are called when a striker does not attempt to swing the bat after a warning from the umpire, and foul balls can be caught on the bounce for an out.

The Lewes club will host its first home game of the season at noon, Saturday, July 11, at the Villages of Five Points.
