September 10, 2022

A Georgetown man faces an attempted murder charge after police say he beat a man with a baseball bat at the Royal Farms in Georgetown.

Police had sought Kevin Shorter, 24, after the Sept. 7 assault at the Royal Farms on Route 13 in which police said Shorter beat another man, 38, with a baseball bat. The victim was seriously injured and taken to an area hospital where he is in critical condition, police said.

An investigation led police to Shorter and they obtained a warrant for his arrest, said Sr. Cpl. Jason Hatchell of the Delaware State Police. Police located Shorter in the Rehoboth Beach area early morning Sept. 10, he said, and Shorter was taken into custody without incident.

Shorter was transported to Troop 7 and charged with attempted first-degree murder and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony. He was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $155,000 cash bond.
