Martin ‘Marty’ Oswald, loved carpentry

Martin “Marty” J. Oswald, 87 of Ocean View, formerly of Lansdowne, Pa., passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family Friday, March 2, 2012, at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford.

Mr. Oswald was born in Philadelphia, Pa., June 30, 1924, son of the late Harry and Mary (Gormley) Oswald.  He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army with the 82nd Airborne Division.  Marty retired as a carpenter with the Local 8 Union in Philadelphia in 1987.

Mr. Oswald was a lifetime member of Mason Dixon VFW Post 7234 in Ocean View and a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Bethany Beach.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Maureen Oswald; two brothers, James and Francis Oswald; numerous nieces and nephews and many dear friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, March 7, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, 691 Garfield Parkway, Bethany Beach.  A visitation will be held Tuesday, March 6, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Ocean View Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 38040 Muddy Neck Road, Ocean View.  Interment will be held at a later date at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro.

The family would appreciate donations in Marty’s name to the Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
