Milton Community Foundation seeks funds for grocery cards

May 10, 2020

The Milton Community Foundation is helping community members who have been directly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic need assistance with purchasing food.

Knowing that many in Milton want to help but aren’t certain how to go about it, the foundation initiated a campaign to help families and individuals

The foundation is reaching out to various Milton civic, business, schools and religious groups to identify families and individuals who may need assistance purchasing food due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

To respect privacy, the foundation is not be taking any personal requests. It is only going through local organizations to obtain the number of families or individuals who need help. Assistance will be in the form of $75 Food Lion gift cards.

Cards will be distributed to the families and individuals through the organizations that have provided the information.

The response to the campaign has been generous. The campaign goal of raising $10,000 was quickly surpassed. The foundation has been able to distribute 100 $75 cards to community members in need.

As a result of the success of the campaign, the foundation has increased the goal to raise $20,000. As long as donations continue to come in or until the state eases restrictions, the foundation will continue this effort.

The MCF has set up an online GoFundMe campaign.  To donate to the GoFundMe campaign for Milton COVID-19 relief, go to www.gofundme.com/f/milton-de-covid-19-relief. Checks can be made payable to Milton Community Foundation with a notation of COVID-19 Relief and mailed to Milton Community Foundation, P.O. Box 12, Milton, DE 19968.

If funds remain when the crisis has passed, the money will be donated to the Milton Community Food Pantry.
