Miracle Angels donate to Beebe cancer patient fund

April 4, 2021

The Miracle Angels of Israel United Methodist Church in Lewes presented Beebe Medical Foundation with a gift of $5,495 to support Beebe Healthcare’s oncology services patient special needs fund.

The group’s last annual gift was made in February 2020, and then the COVID-19 pandemic hit.

Under the leadership of the Rev. Marjorie Belmont-Burns, the Miracle Angels have always raised funds through a multitude of community activities including yard sales, bake sales and special events. These activities came to an abrupt halt last year, but that did not prevent Israel United Methodist Church families, friends and Friendship United Methodist Church, Indian Mission United Methodist Church and St. John Second Baptist Church from making donations to support the mission.

Sister Betty J. Streett, a Miracle Angels member, said, “We are so grateful and blessed to be a blessing to others in need.”

The Miracle Angels of Israel United Methodist Church have been raising funds for cancer survivors since 1999. For the past 11 years, all proceeds have been donated annually to the patient special needs fund. The Miracle Angels chose Beebe so the donations would stay in Sussex County to help local cancer patients and their families at the Tunnell Cancer Center and the South Coastal Cancer Center, which opened in July 2020 near Millville.

“With so many people in need and dealing with financial difficulties due to the pandemic, I am both humbled and joyful that the congregants of Israel United Methodist Church and others were able to raise these funds for Beebe Oncology Services,” said Maurice Winkfield, executive director of Beebe Healthcare Oncology Services. “Cancer treatment can cause so many hardships for patients and their families. This amazing donation will go toward assisting those in need so they can focus on getting better instead of facing socioeconomic hardships.”

As a community-based, nonprofit healthcare system, Beebe Healthcare depends on the generous support of individuals, local organizations and businesses, corporations and private foundations. To make a gift, go to beebemedicalfoundation.org or call 302-644-2900.
