Naomi Schiffer, had medical career

Naomi Schiffer, 92, of Rehoboth Beach passed away Sunday, Jan. 17, 2021, at Brandywine Senior Living.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Stephen and Rosalie Bernstein Marlowe. Naomi attended Elmira College, then earned her bachelor’s degree from Brooklyn College. Upon moving to Kingston, Pa., she continued her education by earning a certificate in Medical Office Procedures from Luzerne County Community College and and a certificate in gerontology from College Misericordia. Naomi was a member of Temple B’nai B’rith in Kingston, and served as past president of the National Council of Jewish Women.

In her earlier days, Naomi volunteered for Meals on Wheels and spent many hours reading to the blind. Upon her husband Mort’s passing in 1999, Naomi and her sister, Valerie Stark, moved to Florida and enjoyed many years together there. Eventually, Naomi moved to Rehoboth Beach to be closer to her daughter. She enjoyed visits from her family, including her great grandpup, Rockne.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Morton.

She is survived by her children, Rabbi Ira Schiffer (Linda), of Middlebury, Vt., and Dale Karen Slavoski (Bill), of Rehoboth Beach; grandchildren, Rachel Schiffer, Benjamin Schiffer (Rebecca), Jason Slavoski (Kelly), Rebecca Slavoski; and her sister, Valerie Stark, of Highland Park, Ill.

The family would especially like to thank the wonderful people who cared for Naomi at Brandywine Senior Living and Vitas Hospice.

Arrangements were made by Rosenberg Funeral Chapel in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. A graveside service was held Jan. 21, in Wellwood Cemetery, N.Y.
