Page one plane not flying shark

August 29, 2023

Flying shark, no! Flying tiger, yes.

Your photo and headline on the front page of your Aug. 25 edition of the Cape Gazette is Exhibit A for the failure of our school system to teach American history. The story of the Flying Tigers, albeit a small part of World War II, would have come to the attention of anyone with even a passing interest in the American history of World War II.

Lest we forget – the Curtiss P-40N on your front page was not a “flying shark,” but a “flying tiger.”  Perhaps a little history lesson, courtesy of Wikipedia, would help your editorial staff.
