Members of 100 Women Who Care Southern Delaware recently gathered at Epworth United Methodist Church in Rehoboth Beach to present an award of $13,970 to the Parkinson’s Education and Support Group of Sussex County.
The Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation contributed an additional $5,000 in matching funds, bringing the total donation to $18,970 — the largest award to date from the 100WWCSD chapter.
“This group of Parkinson’s fighters and their families show up every day — whether it’s through singing, boxing, rock wall climbing, or exercise — to keep moving and stay connected,” said Denise Demback, group board member. “They are so deserving, and we are incredibly grateful for the support from 100 Women Who Care Southern Delaware and the Schulze Family Foundation to help us continue our mission.”
The PESGSC Chorus program, which meets weekly at Epworth UM Church, is one of several therapeutic initiatives offered by the nonprofit. Singing offers numerous benefits to individuals with Parkinson’s disease, including improved breath control and vocal strength, and clearer speech. Beyond its physical benefits, the chorus also fosters emotional well-being and community connection.
The funds from this award will directly support the ongoing development of educational, exercise and therapeutic programs for the group, which currently serves more than 250 individuals with Parkinson’s and their care partners in Sussex County.
