The Chabad of Southern Delaware held Purim in Israel, a community celebration of a Jewish holiday, March 24 at the Lewes Public Library.
Purim is a Jewish holiday that commemorates the saving of the Jewish people from annihilation at the hands of an official of the Achaemenid Empire named Haman.
The attendees celebrated the miraculous events told in the Book of Esther. The ceremony included reading the Megillah, making hamantash, giving gifts and distributing charity, and feasting on shwarma and falafel in the shuk.
A backdrop showing a portion of Jerusalem’s iconic Western Wall added an authentic touch to the setting as well as photo opportunities.

Enjoying the event are Chanale Vogel, co-director of Chabad of Southern Delaware, and baby Zeesa Vogel.

Reading from the Megillah are Sholom Shur, a yeshiva student from Baltimore, and Dr. Abraham Scheer.
