The Rehoboth Beach Museum announced its two popular walking tours will return this summer, both led by historian and guide Jean Brolund.
For first-time visitors or longtime locals, these tours offer a fascinating and fun way to discover the stories behind one of Delaware's most beloved beach towns and enjoy some time in the fresh seaside air.
The Spunky Women of Rehoboth Walking Tour will kick off for the season at 9 a.m., Monday, May 11, at the Village Improvement Association parking lot on Grenoble Place across from the Henlopen Hotel and Condominiums. Participants should wear comfortable shoes and bring a bottle of water.
After visiting the VIA Clubhouse, the group will stroll through town learning about the women of Rehoboth Beach who made it a more pleasant place to live and vacation. Topics will cover town history and improvements ranging from beautification to comfort stations, including the Rehoboth Art League founding, the Rehoboth Public Library’s beginnings, the Mosquito Matrons and the Children’s Fishing Pier. Guides will include stories and photos about healthcare, real estate, businesswomen and entrepreneurs, suffragettes, restaurateurs, philanthropists and more. The tour will conclude at the Anna Hazzard Museum on Christian Street. Tours continue once a month.
The season’s first Boardwalk Walking Tour will begin at 9 a.m., Thursday, May 21, starting at the Rehoboth Beach Bandstand. For anyone curious about the history of the iconic Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk and the buildings that line it, this gentle, 90-minute stroll highlights the town's most important landmarks while bringing history to life through photos from different eras. Topics include native peoples, Methodist camp meetings, fires, World War II, shipwrecks and storms. Parking passes will be provided when meters are operating. Participants are encouraged to bring water and wear comfortable walking shoes. Tours continue twice monthly.
