Rehoboth Museum’s book of postcards now on sale
Rehoboth Beach Museum officials and friends of the organization celebrated the publishing of the museum’s first book with a small gathering June 23.
“Greetings from Rehoboth Beach, Postcards from the Collection of The Rehoboth Beach Museum,” is a hardbound book, featuring 419 postcards on 182 full-color pages, with information on Rehoboth Beach from 1905 to the present.
Postcard collectors and museum volunteers Roland Forster and David McDonald researched and wrote the book. Many of the cards are previously unpublished and selected from collections gifted to the museum by notable collectors such as Judge James G. Horn, Hugo Keesing, and the late Skipper and Til Purnell. Each chapter presents a specific era in postcard history, paired with the corresponding period of Rehoboth Beach history.
Hal and Cindy Dukes, Neil Dougherty and the Dewey Beach Historical Society provided financial support toward the publication of the book.
Copies of the book can be purchased at the museum’s gift shop, 511 Rehoboth Ave. The museum is open 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday to Friday, and 9 a.m. to 1 p..m., Saturday and Sunday. Online sales are planned for the future. The book costs $50, with all the money going back to the museum.
