City officials thank Village Improvement Association
March 13, 2026

In recognition of Women’s History Month, Rehoboth Beach officials presented members of the Village Improvement Association with a proclamation during a meeting March 9.

“We, Mayor Stan Mills and Board Vice President Patrick Gossett, do hereby proclaim Monday, March 9, 2026, as Village Improvement Association Day in the City of Rehoboth Beach in honor of the 238 VIA volunteer/members who make such a positive difference in our community,” said Mills, who read the proclamation.

The VIA was founded in 1909, and its women have been advocates for the community since. Among the things the organization has overseen throughout the years are the installation of the surf-safety line in the early 1900s, the operation of the library when it was in its infancy, the construction of the children’s fishing pier in Lake Gerar in 1963, and thousands of hours of volunteering and fundraising for local organizations.
