Rotary supports memory care with gift to Christiana health system
The Lewes-Rehoboth Rotary Club is one of several Rotary clubs in Sussex County supporting innovative approaches to improving memory care through a $5,000 gift to the Swank Center for Memory Care and Geriatric Consultation at Christiana Care Health System.
“We are longtime supporters of Christiana Care Health System’s efforts to improve the care of persons with Alzheimer’s disease by exploring innovative new treatments,” said Lewes-Rehoboth Rotary Club Director Dave Keller. “Through this gift, we hope to make a real impact on the health and lives of our neighbors who are suffering from Alzheimer’s or are caring for loved ones with this disease.”
“We are working to reduce caregiver burden and improve activities of daily living in individuals with problems in caregiver recognition,” said James Ellison, MD, chair of the Swank Center for Memory Care and Geriatric Consultation at Christiana Care. “We are grateful for the Rotary’s financial support.”
The Swank Center for Memory Care and Geriatric Consultation is Delaware’s first and only comprehensive outpatient office for patients with memory disorders and their families. Approximately 18,000 people across Delaware are coping with Alzheimer’s disease or a related disorder. The Swank Center for Memory Care and Geriatric Consultation offers these patients and their families essential support, education and guidance from diagnosis through treatment.
