Russell L. Givens, church elder

Russell L. Givens, 93, of Lewes passed away Friday, May 10, 2019, at The Moorings at Lewes.  He was born Sept. 10, 1925, in Georgetown, son of the late Linden and Bessie (Long) Givens.

Mr. Givens was a U.S. Navy veteran, proudly serving during WWII on the USS Rigel as a Boatswain's Mate 2nd Class.  He was a member and elder of Rehoboth Presbyterian Church of Midway.  Mr. Givens was an avid sports fan, dedicated to the Baltimore Orioles and Washington Redskins.  He also loved to watch NASCAR races.  More than anything, however, Mr. Givens cherished time spent with his family.  He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who was loved by many and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Givens was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorothy Givens, in 2010; his brother, Herschel Givens; and his sisters:  Eva Melson, Grace Tonge, Violet Hill and Maxine Brasure.  He is survived by his daughters:  Dorothy S. Purcell of Lewes, Beverly S. Rockwell of Bloomsburg, Pa., and Doreen D. Truitt of Lewes; his grandchildren:  Dawn Gooch, Darren Purcell, Amy Pollitt, Angie Lawton, Roxanne Rockwell, Michael Truitt and Miranda Wagner;  his great-grandchildren: Jordan, Hailey, Taylor, Alexis, Cade, Ella, Malyck and Russell; his great-great-grandchild, Oaklyn; and his brother, Robert Givens of Rehoboth Beach..

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, May 18, at 11 a.m., at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, where friends may call beginning at 10 a.m.  Interment with Military Honors will follow the services at Rehoboth Presbyterian Church of Midway Cemetery, 19705 Coastal Highway, Rehoboth Beach.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Mr. Givens' memory to Rehoboth Presbyterian Church of Midway, 19705 Coastal Highway, Rehoboth Beach, DE  19971.
