April 24, 2023

Severna Park lost in 3A Maryland state finals last season to Marriotts Ridge. On April 22, the Falcons ran visiting Cape out of the house in the first half, winning draws and ground balls to lead 9-4 at halftime. The Vikings came back in the second half, though, scoring four straight goals to trail 9-8 with seven minutes remaining.

The Falcons scored just one goal in the second half, but with possession and a two-goal lead with three minutes left, Severna Park milked the clock like a dairy cow to win 10-8.

Cape goals were scored by Lulu Rishko and Claire Lopez with two each, while Macy Steinwedel, Grace Wiggins, Anna Sullivan and Lexi Nowakowski each had one goal.

Cape assists were Lopez, Carrier Clausius and Steinwedel each with one.

Severna Park goals were Alyssa Gore-Chung with four, Charlotte Diez and Stella Bordone with two apiece, and Maris Bragg and Quinn Allison with one each.

Severna Park assists were Maria Bragg and Gore-Chung with one each.

Cape outshot the Falcons 24-19.

Cape will play at Caesar Rodney (9-1) at 4 p.m., Wednesday, April 26, then host Smyrna at 6:15 p.m., Friday, April 28, before taking the ferry across the Delaware Bay to take on Ocean City, N.J., at 12:30 p.m., Saturday, April 29.

The Red Raiders of Ocean City are 4-3 on the season with losses to Haddonfield (8-7), Moorestown (15-8) and Cherokee (10-8).

Coach Corner - Coach Lindsey  Underwood: “We just came out a little flat and got in a bind early. After our timeout, the team came back more focused. In the second half, we were able to really match the speed of play and increase our production on the draw control. The girls worked extremely hard to fight back; we just fell short. [This week, we have] three games in four days and a long commute to OCNJ. Hopefully we can come out fast and sharp Saturday.”
