Sign up now for English as a Second Language classes

September 20, 2018

It’s not too late to register for English as Second Language classes for this fall. Classes are offered from 9 to 11 a.m. or 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Rehoboth Beach. Students can attend the morning or evening or both. The cost is only $20 for textbooks.

There is free child care at all the classes.

All levels from beginners to advanced are offered. Beginner and intermediate levels concentrate on vocabulary, grammar, and conversation, and the advanced-level classes work on writing and reading comprehension skills.

LCOS began ESL classes in 2003, and the program has continued to grow each year. Over 40 volunteers from many different professions and backgrounds serve as teachers. While the majority of students are from Central America, typically there are students from over 30 countries, including China, Vietnam, Brazil, Montenegro, and others.

Funding for the program is provided by individual and business donations, and grants from the Delaware Community Foundation, the Arsht Cannon Fund, the Longwood Foundation, Dollar General, Big Fish Charitable Foundation, Mountaire Foundation and the Harry K. Foundation. The church is at 20276 Bay Vista Drive, Rehoboth Beach (behind Big Fish Grill). For more information, call Jesica Supulveda at 302-515-4385.
