SoDel Santa’s lights up the holidays

November 6, 2020

While the cursed year 2020 seems like it has lasted forever, it really is close to being over, meaning the holiday season is at hand.

SoDel Santa’s is a full-service holiday event lighting company handling residential and commercial customers. The days of getting that twisted string of Christmas lights out of the basement and trying to untangle them are over.

The company will come and put up a homeowner’s or business’s Christmas lights for them. Noah Jones, proprietor of SoDel Santa’s, said the company will consult with the property owner on what they want and then put up the lights. Jones said SoDel Santa’s also offers a maintenance program where if anything happens to the lights the company will come out and fix them. At the end of the holiday season, SoDel Santa’s will come take down the lights and pack them for next season. Cost is handled on a case-by-case basis, depending on how large or how small the customer wants to go.

“It's a complete hands-off for the homeowners. Everything is on timers. There’s no responsibility on the homeowner or business owner. They can just sit back and enjoy the lights,” Jones said.

He said extension cords and light strings are cut specifically for each home on the spot, and everything is commercial-grade so it will be more durable than what can be purchased in a department store.

SoDel Santa’s is an offshoot of SoDel Landscapes in Bridgeville. Jones said his family has always enjoyed going all-out for the holidays, but the Christmas lighting business has generally been local to the Bridgeville area only. That changed with the COVID-19 pandemic, which Jones said convinced him they should expand the business throughout Delaware.

“We felt it was the best year to go out on a big scale,” he said. “Lights make people happy. I’ve never seen anyone look at lights and not be happy. We thought it was right to give back to people and give them something to see.”

Jones said SoDel Santa’s has reached customers as far north as Smyrna; local to the Cape Region, the company has joined up with Lewes Lighting to help with the drive-by holiday house tour.

“As of now, we’ve surpassed our goal for this year,” he said.
