The Funsters will play all evening Friday. Also featured that night at 6 p.m. will be the 2nd Annual Oktoberfest 5K Run/Walk. A Healthy Kids Run for ages 10 and under starts at 5:55 p.m., and day-of race registration starts at 5 p.m. Both races begin on School Place in front of the church. Registration is $30 after Friday, Sept. 21, and on event day. For adult participants, free beer will be available at the end of the race. To sign up, go to www.TriSportsEvents.com.
The Oktoberfest international food court Friday will serve up traditional German entrees along with Italian, Spanish and Polish dishes, hamburgers, hot dogs, French fries, Polish ice, homemade baked desserts and more. For adults 21 and older, there will be the ever-popular beer booth.
On Saturday, the festivities will begin at 11:30 a.m. with arts and crafts booths, helicopter and fire truck rides, a dessert booth with more than 100 items, and all-day entertainment.
Yard games like cornhole, jumbo jenga, and ladder ball, to name a few, can be played Friday and Saturday by ages 16 and up, while tickets and wrist bands are available for purchase so children can enjoy multiple inflatables. Until 4 p.m. Saturday, children can also enjoy games, face painting and a petting zoo. All kids’ and adult games are free of charge.
Saturday’s entertainment lineup includes German Enzian Dancers, the McAleer School of Irish Dancing, Joe Kroboth from 12 to 4 p.m. and the Glass Onion Band from 6 to 10 p.m.
This Annual Oktoberfest is St. John’s and St. Bernadette’s (St. John’s mission church in Harrington) largest fundraiser of the year, and volunteers are always needed. To sign up to volunteer, go to www.bit.ly/StJOktoberfest.
Attendees can park and ride from any of three locations – the old middle school sports field parking, the front bus parking area or the Dollar Tree parking lot in Redner’s Shopping Center.
There is no entrance fee, and a $1,000 cash prize raffle will take place Saturday. For more information, call 302-422-5123. For 5K information, contact Lance Skinner at firstname.lastname@example.org.
