Storytime to focus on horseshoe crabs June 17 at Browseabout
Browseabout Books in Rehoboth Beach announces a special story time event with Lisa Kahn Schnell, author of the children’s book, "High Tide for Horseshoe Crabs," at 9 a.m., Wednesday, June 17.
Every spring, millions of horseshoe crabs crawl to the beaches of Delaware Bay to lay their eggs. There are so many crabs crowding the beach that their shells clack together.
But they aren’t the only ones crowding the beaches for two weeks in spring. Flocks of shorebirds migrating north from South America stop to feed on the horseshoe crab eggs. Scientists and tourists also turn out to see the spectacle and learn more about these animals.
The dual-layered text of "High Tide for Horseshoe Crabs" introduces the life cycle of the horseshoe crab, while beautiful illustrations from Alan Marks put the reader right on the shoreline to observe this exciting annual event that interconnects species.
Upon arrival, children will do some coloring while they wait. After the story, they'll be able to complete a horseshoe crab craft. Afterwards, Schnell will remain in the store to sign and personalize copies of the book. For more information, go to browseaboutbooks.com or call 302-226-2665.
