Thoughts on Flood’s recent Commentary

July 17, 2018

I read with some interest Mr. Flood's commentary on the new Legacy Museum in Montgomery, Ala. I hope to visit the museum along with Bryan Stevenson's organization, Equal Justice Initiative.

The Equal Justice Initiative also publishes an annual calendar full of black history. In addition, the Southern Poverty Law Center is also located in Montgomery. I am glad that both sides of history are beginning to be represented.

I am somewhat surprised by those residents, interviewed by the British Guardian newspaper, who want to leave the abuses of slavery in the past behind, while simultaneously commemorating the standard bearers of the past. I wonder if their relative, their race or a combination of both, coupled with or without a supposed breach in etiquette, had been lynched, would forgetfulness been the outcome?
