Three Cape seniors named Secretary of Education Scholars
Three Cape Henlopen High School seniors have been named Secretary of Education Scholars, one of the highest academic honors awarded to public school students in Delaware.
William Dorsch, Liam Ramsey and Alexandra Tigue were among 93 students from the Class of 2026 recognized by Delaware Secretary of Education Cindy Marten for their exceptional academic achievement, leadership and service. The students were honored during a celebratory dinner in Dover, where Gov. Matt Meyer and other state leaders joined Marten in recognizing their accomplishments.
“Excellence like we see here tonight doesn’t happen by accident. It is built day by day, decision by decision into something remarkable,” Marten told the students. “You likely have or will receive many honors and recognitions in your life. Just know that this is one of the highest honors a student can earn in a Delaware public school, and we are here to celebrate not just what you’ve accomplished but who you are becoming.”
William Dorsch, son of Jeffrey and Maria Dorsch of Milton, is a thoughtful, respectful and adaptable student whose intellectual curiosity distinguishes him among his peers. Ranked at the top of his class, William is actively involved in Chess Club, Science Olympiad and the National Honor Society. He also serves on the Teen Advisory Board at the Lewes Public Library. Outside of school, he enjoys photography and learning about local railroad operations. William plans to attend a four-year college to study meteorology or atmospheric science.
Liam Ramsey, son of Bill and Cathy Ramsey, is a dynamic student leader who excels in academics, athletics and service. He has earned a 1440 SAT score and Advanced Placement Scholar recognition, and participates in the countywide Academic Challenge accelerated program. Liam serves as president of Best Buddies and is a two-year varsity football co-captain, helping lead his team to a state championship appearance. With more than 100 volunteer hours, he is deeply committed to serving others. He plans to pursue a degree in business and marketing with the goal of earning an accelerated MBA.
Alexandra Tigue, daughter of Olga and Michael Tigue of Milton, is an outstanding student ranked third in a class of 476. She has received numerous honors, including the College Board Rural & Small-Town National Award, College Board School National Recognition Award and Delaware Tech Academic Recognition. Alexandra has demonstrated a strong passion for healthcare through a pharmacy internship and hospital volunteer work. She is also an entrepreneur who runs her own crochet business and is an active environmental advocate. She plans to major in pharmacy.
Cape Henlopen High School Principal Kristin DeGregory commended the students for their dedication and impact. “William, Liam and Alexandra represent the very best of our school community,” said DeGregory. “Their commitment to excellence, leadership and service is truly inspiring, and we are incredibly proud of all they have accomplished.”
Superintendent Dr. Jenny Nauman said, “Being named a Secretary of Education Scholar is such a special honor, and I am incredibly proud of Will, Liam and Alexandra. They are not only outstanding students, but thoughtful, driven young people who make Cape better every day. The future is bright for each of them, and we are lucky to be part of their journey.”
