Violet T. Richardson, Sunday school teacher
Violet T. Richardson, 87, of Georgetown, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2011, at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford. Born Jan. 26, 1924, Violet was the daughter of the late Joseph and Ethel Thompson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph I. Richardson Jr.; a sister, Beatrice Calhoun, and two brothers, Jennings “Dink” and Shep Thompson. She is survived by her children: Jo Dryden (Lit), Anne Forester (Joe), and Ralph “Buster” Richardson (Beverly); nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ann Bradley of Georgetown.
Violet retired in 1975 from the Selective Service System. She served as president of the following organizations: The Georgetown Home Demonstration Club, NARFE, and the Georgetown Historical Society. She served as secretary of the Georgetown PTA. She was a member of Sussex Pines Country Club and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, serving as president of the Episcopal Church Women and directress of the St. Agnes Altar Guild. She was a Sunday school teacher and served on the vestry. She also belonged to many bridge groups.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 1, at at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Pine and Academy streets, Georgetown, followed by burial in the adjoining churchyard. Friends may call on the family in the church hall immediately following the burial. Arrangements by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Georgetown.
