Visiting Angels names Linda Marvel Angel Caregiver of the Month

September 2, 2015

Visiting Angels has named Linda Marvel of Millsboro the company’s Angel of the Month for July. The company helps seniors and disabled adults remain independent and in their own homes for a better quality of life.

Marvel has been employed as a caregiver for Visiting Angels since February 2012 and has consistently earned high praise from all types of care recipients, from those who need a few hours of companionship and some errands run, to those requiring full hands-on care.

“Linda is kind and gentle and seems to have unlimited patience,” says company Director Annalise Forman. “She has a true gift of compassion for others and easily identifies any special needs or potential issues with care and scheduling, offering creative solutions before they present a problem or inconvenience to any family."

Marvel has worked in a nursing home, and for nearly three decades ran the office of a family business in a service industry where problem solving and a positive attitude were crucial to success. This summer, she has made use of her prior work experience as she became part of Visiting Angel’s office operations while another staff member is on maternity leave. Forman says, “Linda’s experience as a caregiver in the field is invaluable as she shares her perspective with internal staff. She has made impressions that will last long after she returns to her customary field schedule in September."

In Marvel's experience as a caregiver, she has managed some of the more difficult cases needing full hands-on care, whether from illness or the special challenges of Alzheimer’s and dementia. She believes in a proactive approach.

“I truly love making a difference in the lives of our care recipients and the peace it brings to family members when they see joy or positive change in their loved ones. Often a family member has reversed or otherwise changed their own role from a spouse, sibling or child to that of primary caregiver, and that upsets the natural order of the family, and is detrimental to their proper roles. At least for the time I spend with a care recipient, family members can rediscover their primary role, and that often brings peace and restorative healing throughout the family,” says Marvel. “I’m also really enjoying spending time back in the office. While our staff may be gaining some insight from me as a busy caregiver, I am learning how caring and professional the director and entire scheduling staff are, as they turn enormous amounts of input from families and employees into an operation that meets the needs and exceeds the expectations of both.”

Visiting Angels rewards employees based on their customer care and willingness to step in to meet the agency’s needs, even when it’s on short notice or not convenient. "Linda Marvel certainly meets these qualifications,” says Forman.

"We’re really proud to count Linda among our family of superior caregivers,” says Forman. “Our employees are the face of our company, and we only employ those who we would trust with our own families.”

Visiting Angels can provide caregivers from a few hours a week up to 24 hours a day, seven days a week. For more information, call 302-329-9475.
