Washington Master Chorale interfaith concert set April 24

Performance to raise funds for Family Promise of Southern Delaware
April 8, 2022

Groome Church will present the Washington Master Chorale Chamber Singers for an interfaith concert to benefit Family Promise of Southern Delaware at 7 p.m., Sunday, April 24, at 601 Savannah Road, Lewes.

The concert will celebrate music of faith from the Christian and Jewish liturgies. It will also include the Delaware premiere of an excerpt from “Kohelet” (The Teacher) by acclaimed composer Henry Dehlinger, and pieces typically associated with the Jewish High Holy Days and with the celebration of Easter, such as Handel’s “Messiah.”

Rabbi Dr. Julie Hilton Danan, religious leader of Seaside Jewish Community, will offer a welcome and remarks.

The Washington Master Chorale Chamber Singers, led by Artistic Director Thomas Colohan, is a critically acclaimed, Washington, D.C.-based choral ensemble, nationally recognized for its unique programing and vocal excellence.

Family Promise of Southern Delaware is the second Delaware affiliate of Family Promise, a 30-year-old nonprofit advisory organization based in New Jersey. Its purpose is to unite faith-based and community groups in efforts to prevent homelessness through financial support, lodging and hospitality, and stabilization support for families with children who are in housing distress.

“When the opportunity presented itself to once again host the Washington Master Chorale Chamber Singers in concert, we were thrilled to do so,” said the Rev. Dr. Willard Crossan, Groome Church pastor. “Their December holiday concert to benefit the Overfalls Foundation was a great a success; we are looking forward to a similar, very successful event and outcome for Family Promise. I’d like to add that our congregation is especially pleased and appreciative that Rabbi Danan of Seaside Jewish Community is participating in this event.”

“Music, in many ways, is a common, unifying language shared by all religions. I am happy to support this effort to benefit Family Promise,” said Danan. “It is essential that faith communities pull together to help our neighbors find safe, secure housing so that they – and especially their children – can lead and enjoy stable, happier lives.”
