Worcester students assemble hygiene kits for hurricane relief

December 8, 2017

Worcester Prep senior Maddie Simons and members of the Upper School Volunteer Club hosted a hygiene kit assembly event Nov. 16 as part of a Clean the World community outreach program.

Marcus Thomas, national sales manager for Clean the World, made a special appearance to educate students about the organization's mission to improve health with proper hygiene and to save millions of lives. Clean the World is a nonprofit that partners with hotels around the globe to recycle discarded soap and hygiene products to donate to impoverished people.

Students assembled 160 care packages filled with soap, shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, washcloths and razors along with handwritten notes to be distributed to hurricane victims. Simons and her mother, Jackie Berger of the Clarion Resort Fontainebleau Hotel, are credited for forming a partnership with Clean the World and the Ocean City Hotel-Motel-Restaurant Association. Together they are working to reach a goal of citywide hotel participation in Ocean City, Md., for Clean the World's soap-recycling program.
