Tulips on the Menu

Are tulips edible? Well, yes…the petals are but only if free of chemicals and pesticides. The leaves, stems and bulb are considered poisonous, although some recall eating tulip bulb soup and bread made from ground tulip bulbs during wartime famine in Europe.

Online recipes vary from petals as garnishes to petals as appetizers with stuffing. Petals are also used as ingredients in salads. Users report they are best eaten raw as they lose flavor when cooked.
